Telnet

Definition
Standard application, supported by almost every TCP/IP implementation, that allows users (clients) to log on to many different hosts (servers) from a single virtual terminal running at their desktop. Telnet servers list on well-known TCP port 23, and Telnet clients use TCP port numbers greater than 1023. The connection is always initiated in the client-to-server direction.
