Twist

Definition
The ratio between the amplitudes of the two component frequencies in a dual tone such as a touch-tone. If one component is much louder than the other, then there is a high or low twist, if the two amplitudes are the same, the twist is equal to one. The two frequencies in a touch-tone (DTMF tone), for example, should have the same amplitudes: restricting the twist values which are accepted by a DTMF detector can help eliminate talk-off and play-off See also Talk-Off, Play-Off.
